Sedano’s Supermarket:

During the summer of 2018, I had the opportunity to work on the social media for the Miami staple grocery store where every local found their authentic Hispanic cuisine fix. Needless to say, I definitely made my younger-self proud. Sedano’s Supermarket runs a Spanglish social presence, which I contributed to through community management and engaging cultural posts that mostly consisted of relatable puns to the Latin American market (la cultura is HUGE on puns).

My community management role included anticipating customers’ questions or concerns and writing English and Spanish responses. It also meant fishing through Sedano’s comments to acknowledge or engage with what people are saying. This usually resulted in humorous Spanglish banter. The cultural posts had me finding items with double meanings to different Hispanic countries, like “ropa vieja” which translates to “old clothes” but is also a popular Cuban dish, or famous Latin landmarks to encourage their followers to engage. This created a community among shoppers from all over South Florida.
